"One of the most 'from-the-heart' albums we've heard in years... a singer-songwriter that that tells stories of family & friends, love lost & love found"! -Stevan Pasero, Producer/Sugo Music
NAKED by MOLLY MAGUIRE The concept for Naked was simple: to have the honesty of the lyrics and the ruminations on the human condition touch the heart. The songs are sparse, Molly Maguire playing a hauntingly simple piano, with vocal takes pouring from her heart; Michael Burton's complimentary bass creating a beautiful nest for the vocals to rest, his melody lines gracefully floating through the air like a daydream. The lack of production is a conscious result of short studio sessions and an absence of overdubbing, resulting in an authentic and transparent sound. The two performers and composers sculpt melodies, chords, lyrics and arrangements together from their quiet, seaside home in NorthernCA.
"This debut CD from singer-songwriter Molly Maguire, a classically trained composer and arranger, is evocative, haunting and spare -- a stripped-down album worthy of its title. Maguire sings 10 jazz-flavored originals accompanied only by her unadorned acoustic piano and the sympathetic bass playing of her partner, Michael Burton. Maguire's lyrics are as simple as her instrumentation: In "Ashes," the opening song, she sings, "In all my thoughts and thoughts and thoughts and thoughts/Maybe the truth will come." Very nice. In song after song, she writes about simple feelings and pleasures -- a strumming ukulele, warming cold feet on a lover, forgetting names. "Ashes," Maguire writes in her online notes, is in memory of Ashley Taylor, "a beautifully talented singer, dancer and actress whose life ended at the tender age of 23 in June 2009." "Somehow" is a love song to Burton. "Somehow, somewhere, no rush," she sings, breathy and warm and sensual. "I just wanna feel your sweet touch." -- Paul Liberatore, Marin Independent Journal
