LIONA: Behind the artistic name of LIONA stands a very special woman; born in Israel but – as she defines herself – a citizen of the world: a multi-faceted artist who sings in Portuguese, Spanish, English and Hebrew. As she continues her eternal pilgrimage, re-discovering herself, she never fails to surprise and, during this year (2011), she has released her two debut albums: EL BAYIT (from her other musical project) and TEMPLE OF LOVE, in a special ‘symbiosis’ with the León brothers, in which she oozes artistic talent and shows us the heavens and the earth…a paradise of registers that seduce and win our hearts from the outset. This is how she is…simultaneously belonging to no place and to every place; happy, sensitive and sensual; heart-rending, dramatic and visceral: night and day; Ying and Yang; all of these reflected in the musical landscapes painted by her voice.
The music of The Leon Project, consisting of brothers Jesús and Paco León, reaches us, once again, from Málaga. This time, these producers, pianists and composers, present “Temple of Love” – a compilation of songs that fuse ETHNIC-WORLD MUSIC elements with electronic “chill” touches – in association with singer Liona Gilad. “Temple of Love” is the third album from the León brothers, following “Málaga by Love” and “Canvas of Miracles”. This latest work, a totally vocal album, features singer Liona, who overflows with sensuality, sweetness, character and identity. The numbers are sung in English, Hebrew and Spanish and are themes to close your eyes and be transported by. It is also worth highlighting the exceptional lyrical work carried out by John Dawes who (as usual) takes on the responsibility of transforming musical ideas into meaningful messages, full of calm, and revolving around the essence of love: love of life; living to love the simple things – those that are worthwhile…allied to Hebrew and Spanish lyrics provided by Liona and Jesús León, respectively.
